It's Christmas time! I'm avoiding bringing in a tree for as long as I can because then I'll have to clean up after it. It's a Wishbow tradition, for sure. I think I am taking after my Dad on this one.

However, because it is the first tree I'll have since I left good old Jersey I decided to make some ornaments that the cats couldn't destroy. I got so into them I made more that maybe other people might love.

I made them out of salvaged Maple just so you can put dead tree on your soon to be dead tree or plastic based tree effigy.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, I regret leaving so many delicious leftovers back home in NJ. There were so many pies, you guys. I could have had breakfast pie for weeks.

Thanks for lovely people and the decibel meter gods, I am now the 2011 Art vs Art champion!

She even sold, which is awesome. But I'm not going to lie, I would have loved to see her destroyed by a giant viking man with a weird battle axe. It was a great night, I went up against some fierce competition and nearly shat myself a few times because, jaysus, some of those paintings were really good. The final round was myself and a really rad gentleman named Devan Smith, who's giant squid painting had me shaking in my boots.

Oranje went well, everyone! Thanks to all who came out. I now know what kind of directions to go in from here. They are directions I am very excited about.

These paintings were the hit of the party, for sure. I am hoping to do more of them! With all the digital stuff, which I love too, I sometimes pine for getting my hands dirty. What better way to get dirty than to get ink all over everything in my house?
Kind of glad my cat is black because of that.

Crane Wife

Made this for the dude and me as sort of a anniversary thing. He introduced me to The Crane Wife album when we first met, and driving back and forth to his place it's what I mostly listened to. Whenever I hear it it makes me think of him. Shh, don't tell anyone I'm that mushy.

I mean, I did totally just make him a blood covered crane for christ sake.

I'm completely overwhelmed by how much is going on. Oranje is this weekend and I keep hitting snags with my booth. It'll get done. My back will be bent sideways due to stress, but it'll get done! I've been painting my ass off, I missed digital work. Hence the crane being digital. I love you, my computer.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Get that bitch a container. Bitches love containers. At least, I know for me it's one-hundred percent true. I've collected jars and cigar boxes as a child to keep things in. It's gotten no better as I get older, I tend to get cigar boxes and cool containers for keeping art fair display stuff and to keep who knows what around the house. Growing up where I did let me have four different IKEAs within 30 minutes no matter what direction you drove. I got. SO. MANY. BOXES.

I still love containers and boxes, so when I'm out and about at garage sales and goodwills, I tend to pick up boxes, vases, containers of all sorts to paint at a later date. I keep putting them aside, but I finally got my ass in gear and started painting them and playing. Now I have a few in my shop, expect more!

These two sets are originally IKEA, I wanted to keep them for my own use but I already have a disturbing number of containers in my kitchen, bathroom, and studio. So instead I'm letting you people have these lovely containters.

The idea behind them is that you can china-marker, dry-erase, or whatever marker the contents in the little frames. I hate when my household items boss me around. I'd rather take charge and label them myself.

I'm getting into a groove, I blame it on the summery weather, even though it's been all tornadoes and rain here the past week or so. Word to the wise, don't snuggle your cat who is made of 324% muscle when it's thunder and lightning out. When lightning strikes across the street, you will regret it. Claws everywhere.

In the mean time, I'm embracing lines again! I missed them, I missed playing with ink and I missed having to battle with tracing paper. I have a new print up to show my accomplishment with getting back to hitting the (ink) bottle.

Kitten Explosion

Hello, everyone! I have a bunch of new ideas brewing but it's hard to get to them. You see, we've been fostering kittens around these parts and at the moment we have 5 teeny tiny ones in addition to the two tank-cats that normally wander around the house. If I'm on the computer, there's a butt in my face and at least two more stomping on my keyboard doing all kinds of crazy things to my files.

You should have seen me trying to do matting for the Handmade Promenade. Diiiiisaster. While making my little jotters with the paper guillotine I had to shut everyone away for fear of some living being in the house shedding blood. Man, oh man.

In the mean time I need to get up photos of glass and ceramic things I painted that were at the show in Indy last friday. Here's a crap photobooth'd one I took to show a friend. Expect this little dude on a print sometime soon. Maybe even a block print if I can get my act together.

But honestly with faces like this, it's hard to concentrate for long.

I will have a small table at the Curves in West Lafayette, IN tomorrow (May 11) from 9-12 if anyone is in the area. It's a small thing but I'd love to see some happy faces down there.

Homemade Promenade

I am currently made out of 90% berries. I'm so glad the seasons are changing so all the fruit is going on sale. Aw man, blueberries are going in everything now.

I'd like to announce that I'll be at the Homemade Promenade on Mass Ave in downtown Indianapolis this Friday! It's some good timing seeing as Mother's day is Sunday, and if any of you are like me, you're scrambling.

Along with new prints, I also have a whole slew of painted glasses, vases, containers, all sorts of fun stuff. I'm also perfecting som jotters I hope to bring too, it's bound to be fun times.

I threw up on etsy some revisited prints, I tweaked and put them up. They are some of my favorites, I have no idea why I ever stopped selling them. I tweaked them to be green and blue, I used to get a lot of requests for different colors so I'm trying to give you guys what you want.

I'm getting my studio all set up and ready to use regularly. I, with help from the Brian-boy, tore up the carpet, put down new flooring, painted the walls, and put up the trim. I have so many boxes, it's pretty intimidating. It'll get done soon, I swear. I'll take pictures and everything.

I made a painting a while back with an oniony theme. He's sitting on my windowsill looking pretty as the weather gets warmer. However I painted him in such dark, late fall/early winter colors. I wanted to let him have a chance to have a change in attitude for the spring and summer. So i sat down at my computer and went to work tweaking and making him again.

Art vs Art paint day was this past Saturday and you know what that means! VOTING TIME. so head out this way and vote for your favorites. Mine is canvas 56, if you would be so kind.

A little explanation for the contest from my roommate:

"The concept of the competition is you go and paint for a day with supplied materials and it goes into voting with a load of other paintings. At the big Main Event, 32 paintings make it to the floor where people can vote for the ones they want to see on stage. 16 paintings make it and go round by round one on one with an applause-o-meter deciding the victor. The loser spins the wheel of DEATH and if it's not "Instant Death" it gets auctioned off. If no one wants it, that shit gets DESTROYED in various ways (such as chainsaw, katana, paint thinner, jackhammer, or "dirty sanchez"). It's an amazing competition and I could only get a tiny photo from the site (some are larger than others for whatever reason) but the canvases are all 18x20. "

Hey kids!

I've been busy preparing for an art fair downtown, as well as helping my roommate prepare for a completely different one the same day. A word of advice, don't try and make a booth out of PVC when you have never done anything like that before and are too short to put it together anyway.
In short, it's been a little hectic. I'm still trying to get things done though. For example, I'm getting out the paint and brushes and actually painting!

Sorry for the bad scan and terrible photo, but I am only left with a bad scanner and an apartment devoid of a place to take a decent photo. I'll have better versions soon though, I hope.

I've been digging around in the deep, dark folders of my hard drive and found a lot of old work of mine including this dude who is one of the first things I did in illustrator. I dropped the whole cut paper look pretty fast, but making shapes stuck. Looking back is weird.

Finally I think the whole cat health issues thing is over. I'm thankful because I am tired of digging into my fig nuton funds for poop-cat medications.

While I wasn't freaking out about the state of my cat's butt, I tried out some new coloring techniques to make things a tad bit more interesting. I used a drawing from my sketchbook of Andrew Bird and figured it would be a good fit for an experiment. I kind of dig it, but I need to see how else I can push it.

I also got a painting done this weekend. I need to get a decent scanner to actually show it off nicely. My photos of it kind of look a little gross. It felt good to paint again though, I'll have to do it more.

Everyone else seems to have sent their stuff in and showed what they made for it, so I might as well too. If you're interested, I'm 99% sure they're till taking applications. it looks like it should be pretty rad. I'm even considering driving the many hours just to go. Possible road trip, hell yes.

I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I collect WWI stuff and gasmasks. I never get amazingly epic things, just little buts here and there. A medal, a poster, a mask, a bag, anything neat that I can afford. Every once in a while I remember I actually have these things and they get me a-doodlin'.

I never thought I would use pink for anything. There's a first for everything, right? I may have to utilise it in the future.

Over the past two weeks I have been going through a pretty depressing kitty situation where two weeks after I adopted two little dudes I had to put one down. I feel much better because it was the right decision, but please just hug your pets for good old Major Tom.

I bought a drawing from Grant Gilliand as a gift to myself for my birthday, it came in the mail yesterday! I am very excited about it. I interviewed him for a project for my first illustration class a few years ago and I still can't get over his work. Master of Sharpie's, that man is. Now I have to decide where it's going to go.

Speaking of stuff on the wall, while trying to get some good photos for etsy, which is apparently near impossible in my light sucking cave house, I took this while testing the light. It made me laugh, I figured I should share.

I put these notebooks up for sale the other day too, they're pretty rad and I had fun making them. I really dig the paper I used in them, it has some delicious tooth to it.

Now for some painting and a few hours of The Golden Girls.

Birthday and Painting

This past week was my birthday! It was pretty uneventful, though Mao bought me a tiny chocolate almond ice cream cake which we slit. Best roommate ever, though I was half sure the almond smell was poison. It turned out to be delicious instead.

I also decided to nab myself a drawing from Grant Gilliand as a gift to myself. I interviewed him about four years ago for my first illustration class. Not only was he really nice, he also had some good advice. I should probably go into my email and read it again, the advice is probably a little more relevant now. Anyway, you should check him out, his work is extremely rad.

I'm still playing with color and possible ways to render. I'm having fun with it.

I also whipped up a painting, I need to play with it a bit more. I haven't painted in almost a year now so I was insanely nervous about every little thing I did. I miss playing around with paint. I should really pick up a brush more from here on out.

Speaking of which, here is a drawing I did on a canvas in July but haven't finished yet (maybe this week, I guess) and a painting I did probably four years ago. Biiiiiig change. I went through a lot of phases before settling down recently. I can't believe I was that bad. Oh boy. That's getting painted over soon.

And lastly I used excess paint on a birdhouse I found at the craft store. I may need to paint some sciency looking wooglies on there. Official term, I swear. He's chilling with the Spock my brother Patric and I won from a crane game and the Mary I nearly ran over because someone placed her and a cement lion in the middle of the street. The lion lives with my parents now.

Tomorrow I start my office job. I'm so nervous I nearly just threw up. I've never worked in an office before, and while I'm sure I'll do my best I am still really scared. I hope they keep the air on because from here on out I have to wear long sleeves to work. Crap.

In other news, I landed an office job. I never, ever in my life imagined working an office job. This completely weirds me out but I'm happy I will be employed by what seems to be a pretty nice, relaxed company. A company where I can get my teeth cleaned and my glasses fixed. the swirlies will surely break them down over time. I never really worked in an office before so I had to go buy grown-up clothes to cover my tattoos. It's more difficult to do than you think it is, apparently.

In the mean time I've been trying to crank out some work, including designs for pocket notebooks I want to make and sell. I should have some mock-ups finished soon. I have a bad habit of buying things with the intention of using them for project but never starting them. Hopefully this means I can get this stuff out of my face.

The more money I make the closer I get to allowing myself to get a cat. Help me with this dream. Please.

I got my hands on two commissions from my etsy. One for a Pan and one for a mermaid. Neither are something I'd think of doing right off so it was kind of nice. However, the dude wanted me to paint and ink them, nothing digital. That thew me for a loop, I haven't painted in a while.

Because I was a little shaky I've promised myself to do a little more practice. So I did a quick doodle last night and did some practice painting.

Hopefully I get better pretty soon.

I've been in Indianapolis now for about a week and a half. I've ventured out on my own to the scary land of the post office and grocery store. I nearly died.

Not really, but my car smells like wet cabbage now because we hauled my goldfish in the seat of my car behind the truck we rented. Apparently it spilled a bit. Seriously though, just like slightly cooked cabbage, I'm not even kidding.

I'm not getting into the swing of things, I got a commission for two pieces I'm nearly done with. A Pan and a mermaid, just ink and a quick painting respectively. It's kind of blowing my mind because I haven't actually done ink or paint in quite a while. Apparently I've become more patient because I haven't thrown the painting out the window yet. Last year that baby would have been compost by now.

Here's a doodle turned kind of neato from tonight. We can't afford cable so I'm catching up on Big Love and doodling. Best kind of combo. We were without internet for the first week or so. I nearly died. You have no idea how many wireless routers I tried to admin/admin my ass into.

It's March! I'm moving in two weeks, that's pretty scary. I technically started packing, but I only have a box filled with 23 garden gnomes, a cement Virgin Mary, and a Bust of Spock that doubles as a decanter. I wish I was kidding, but I bet you wish you were as awesome as the contents of that box.

I decided that I should stay up all night in order to reset my sleep schedule, for the past few months I've accidentally been going to sleep at about 6am. Night shifts do goofy things to me and I should probably return to the land of the living and conscious. To occupy my time I finished a set of fortune teller ladies I have been working on off and on. They used to have about five times as many colors and more detail but I just don't think I'm good at those type of things. I find it more fun to pick an extremely small amount of colors and go to work figuring out how to make it work.

For a little bit there I was in an idea block, I think I'm out of it. However unless I'm actively working on things, I feel like I'm not productive. So I dug out the first piece I ever did with a shape oriented design a few years ago in order to maybe mess with it:

I think I did this for an Illustrator based project, I don't quite remember. The whole idea was from a quote I learned in my Beat Lit class "The car is the cathedral of the 20th Century" or something similar to that.

I remade all the shapes then did a little color change. Decided I was not done and messed with color more.

Then more color messing.

I figure I'm finished with it for now. I like it all three ways, but not sure which I like best. If anything, it was fun to revisit a piece I forgot about.

Two and a half weeks until I move to Indianapolis, I'm kind of pooping myself. I have a lot of crap to pack.

I just watched Secret of Kells and juuuuust about pooped myself. The shapes, you people, fucking amazing.

I worked in an Irish import store for a few years in High School, admittedly I read every book we had in there. I probably shouldn't have, sorry all you people who bought books from there. My grubby hands were all-up-ons. I read a lot about the Viking invasions, the Book of Kells, crazy-go-nuts stories about woods people, etc. Lots of fun, so I really, really dug this movie. I have no idea who I want to win best animated feature this year, can't we just let all of them share?

I really want a Bounty bar now. That job was amazing for all the reading time and free imported candy. hoooooo-boy. Sadly I am not Irish enough to say I'm Irish. I'm not anything enough to claim being anything. I'm half sure my ancestors just stood in the streets and held a sign that said "will fuck anything" and that's where I get my genes.

Work has been ultra slow, I guess the crepe eating winter season is slowing down. Spring needs to get it's butt here, I need some cash. While at work I drew Laika, the most awesome of space dogs.

Michael was trying to tell me she died upon reentry. That's a lie, she totally landed, then chose to go back into space of her own accord. She is currently orbiting the earth and is actually the person who controls the internet. The more you know!

All of my computers and computer accessories have Russian space related names. I don't remember how it started, but my handy 2g thumb drive that I have yet to lose (somehow, it's kind of a miracle) is named Laika.

So I'm sometimes a terrible friend. Not only do I have my best friend's belated birthday gift from last week, I also still have her christmas gift and a gift I got her to make up for the ticket she bought me for the Andrew Bird concert in September. Sep-fucking-tember, you guys. I have the best intentions, but the post office is so far away. Like way down the street and around the corner.

So I made Mao a momento mori style belated birthday image that I'll slap on a card for her. I also figured I'd show what my drawings sometimes look like.

Here's how it looks like at first, I like drawing in color pencils, I just dig the way they feel and I start with a light color for sketchy lines and work my way into a more finished drawing with darker colors.

Honestly that is a more finished drawing than I've been doing lately, haha. I'm kind of sloppy and all over the place when it's just something for me and nobody else sees the process. I also haven't scanned since May. I should probably start doing that instead of photoboothing because I'm lazy and generally do all my work from 1am and later. The scanner the house is in a bedroom, not so useful at 1am.

There is the finished. I rushed it and didn't take a huge amount of time, but it's cool seeing as it's only going to be a small thing as a joke.

Sexy Zombie Ass

I finally watched Zombieland last week, there's nobody around to watch movies with so I tend to chicken out about going to the movies alone so I waited until it came out on DVD to see. Mao is an amazing secret keeper, I had no idea Bill Murray was in it and I pretty much pooped while watching it. I said, quite loud, "holy crap that is Bill Fucking Murray" while watching it with headphones on. Pretty sure someone heard me yell/say that at 4am and they probably thought I was the most awesome person ever or a nutcase.

I'm rooting for awesome.

I then played a bunch of zombie themed games so I didn't accidentally go out and kill someone with a crowbar. Am I the only one who gets really pumped after movies like that?

Whatever. Soon I'll be running around thinking I'm a Big Daddy, these things come in phases, you see.

Yes, those colors and those sweet lines that Flint Lockwood painted all his sciency things in Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Hot damn, I love that movie. It made me laugh so loud in the theater that I'm pretty sure the people who worked them came in to check if I (and Mao) were okay. I got it when it came out I got the DVD and laughed just as hard.

Someone asked what's up with the rats in my work here and there. It's because I had rats. Rats are hella rad. This is Lenny, her roommate was named George. Lenny liked to hang out in my shirt and make her way into my bra and just chill. She was weird.

I'm hoping this year will be a good one, there is a lot in the plans and I'm sincerely hoping it all works out. I'm working on postcards to send out and thinking of little packets to send to my top list of places I would like to work for. Making that list of clients is difficult stuff, my man. Scary to boot.

I'm also planning on moving to Indianapolis this year. I figure I've conquered the Mid-Atlantic, the South, now I'm moving on to the mighty Mid-West even though it freaks me out a little. It's flat and stuff is really far apart. That is weird. However, weird is good and in my plans on taking over the country one region at a time, it will surely do.

In the mean time, I'm trying to suck up some of the life around here. My brother and I went to see the Bodies exhibit. I know i'm a little behind on that being new and amazing, but still. It was pretty damn cool and amazing. I had to resist touching everything, I treated myself to some ice cream for not touching anything.

Man, oh man, I hope it snows again soon. I'm not having this whole hey look it's cold as all heck but nothing is going on weather-wise thing.

My resolution for 2010: eat more pickles. Everyone loves pickles.

So, while at school I was part of the radio station. My DJ name was DJ Tricky Dick and I was absolutely terrified of the telephone. I also would catch myself in the middle of saying some dirty words pretty often. I guess it fit? I don't know, you guys. I've just always been interested in that whole time in US history. Maybe it's because my parents were dirty, dirty hippies. Only not really.

My Dad has called him Tricky Dick on many occasions though.

I now use Tricky Dick as a screenname on websites from time to time, including Teefury.com. I made myself the above image to use as an artist icon for when my shirt gets sold in December.

In the mean time I'm kind of desperate for a job where my pay isn't dependent on whether I spill soup on someone or if I forget to bring extra sugar to the table or something. Admittedly, that fish suit looks like it would be made with the skins of Muppets and if my theory on their annual shedding of skin is correct, I totally want one. I did a really really fast rush-through at the MET today with my friend Michael who only had one day in the city to play with me. His plane was at 7 and we don't know what the AM hours are. Therefore we had to rush around to do fun things. Sadly the MoMA was closed today, who the hell closes on Tuesday? So upsetting, you guys.

Anyway, the afternoon in the city made me want to draw some crazy stuff and I really wish I had the time to sit down and draw while in the museum.

I once read that certain Japanese trains ban cell phone use, oh lordy do I wish NJTransit would follow in their footsteps. I really don't care about what your doctor said about that thing on your back, though I'm glad you got it checked out. Gross.
I would also like to point out that I actually have whorl prints on every single toe and finger. If you're trying to frame me for some mass puppu-napping please keep this in mind. I would love to be involved in puppy naps.

Man, guys. I cannot even beleive how much I fail at backing up my files. I accidentally deleted about two months worth of work. With a looooot of scrambling, panic, and luck I was able to find a program and get back roughly half of what I had. If I didn't get back a psd or finished pdf of a piece, I seem to have been lucky enough to be left with an illustrator file. Some of the character design stuff I had is gone, but I'm hoping a professor or two might be able to help a sista out.

Hopefully I am not that dumb ever again. Worst case scenario I'll find my small png or jpegs and just wind up having to do them from those images as reference.

In the mean time, I had to get back on the horse, so I did some bikers to go with some pre-dumbassery bikes I made.

You know, as of two weeks ago.

I had to, despite a lot of hard work trying to work something out, decline the Cartoon Network internship. I very seriously cried my little eyes out when I had to call and e-mail everyone who helped me. What really sucked was apparently Ed Murrita never got my message and I had to tell him after I thought I was done and dealt with it. Man, I have never been so upset, I was so close.

But whatever, time to move forward! Here are some things I've been doodling while being a substitute at my old high school. If you ever wondered what that would be like, I assure you it is extremely awkward, even more if you get your little sibling in one of your classes. Paper airplane fight in AP Calculus, yay!

I got an internship with Cartoon Network.

Let me tell you what, the expletives flew. I was going off the wall for a bit there, haha.

In the mean time I'm doing some character work for one of my classes. I'm currently drawing him in 5 different styles for homework which I think I need to post. Spumco and Hannah Barbera styles are way more difficult than I thought, however drawing like Dr. Seuss is way easier than I ever expected.

Sidewalk Arts

Yesterday was SCAD's Sidewalk Arts Fest. I am so sore, but I think my square turned out pretty neat. I had a lot of fun and there were swarms (or scads, hurr hurr hurr) of people there, more than I remember from any of the past four years I've done this. We played "count the deck shoes" and "count the ginger babies" which produced a higher number than I expected.
Now I have to go and finish off my budget, gross.

Okay, what's been going on. A lot of not studying for my lecture classes, is what. I can't memorize anything so I might have a mini panic attack over my midterm tomorrow, but that's okay. I'll live, unless my Mesoamerican professor goes all Aztec peeling my fingernails on me.

I found out that the Teatrio award ceremony is the day of graduation and I can't get any of my 600 euro unless I'm there so that's a big disappointment. I spent too much money on school to pay to fly out there to pick up money that doesn't cover the cost of getting to the ceremony. I also need to move out that weekend so there' pretty much no way. I did make my self portrait for the book though.

I was in the Munny Show for our student SOI. I need pictures of my Munny, but we had to make a 12x12 piece to go with them. Mine, thankfully, got sold the day of the opening.

Got an interview with Laika which was pretty nuts because I got to play with some of the puppets. They're not hiring but seemed to really like my work, I was pretty proud. I get so critical of what I do and forget that other people look at it too.

I also got bored and used the images I made to slap on some candle holders and might make them into prints. I need to get hopping, graduation is on it's way and I feel like I'm nowhere near ready.

Here's a nice way to start this thing. Today I found out I won second place in the Teatrio Contest. I think that meas I have money and a trip to Venice coming my way. Good thing I got my passport all set up this winter.

I've never been out of the country and I haven't been on a plane since I was 7. I am terrified.
